Admission Requirements for Higher Education in Albania

First Cycle Studies: Bachelor Programme
For admission into the first cycle study programme, students must have completed the State Matura exam or have obtained an equivalent qualification.
Second Cycle Studies: Master’s Programme
For admission to a second cycle study programme, pupils must hold a first cycle degree or its equivalent.
Third Cycle Studies: Doctorate/PhD
For admittance into the third cycle programme, students must hold a second cycle degree, or an integrated degree.
Application Procedure
Students who wish to study in Albania must apply directly to the higher education institution of their choice. Fill in an application form and submit it with the required documents to the chosen university.

For Undergraduate Studies
- Maturity certificate: State Matura exam points
- High school transcripts
- English proficiency certificate (if applicable): TOEFL/ IELTS
- High school leaving certificate
- SAT exam result (Some universities consider the SAT scores)
- A copy of passport or any other valid identity document and 2 photos
- Reference letters: At least two
For Graduate Studies
- An undergraduate diploma or its equivalent
- English proficiency certificate (if applicable)
- Curriculum Vitae: It should include following details: personal information, brief educational background, professional/research/teaching experience, extra-curricular involvement, skills, awards/honors, publications (if any), and references.
- Reference letters: At least two
- A copy of passport or any other valid identity document and 2 photos
- A Master’s degree or an equivalent diploma (for doctorate studies)
- Research proposal (for doctorate studies): A research proposal in field on which the candidate would want to prepare his/her thesis.
**All documents must be officially translated in Albanian.
Entrance Examination
Admission to higher education in Albania requires a Maturity Certificate-the diploma acquired upon completion of the
Matura exam. To gain admission into the higher education institutions in Albania, students are required to pass the literature and mathematics sections, as well as 2 electives from a maximum of 10 of the Matura examination.
